2009 NFPFA Message to Veterans
On behalf of the National Football Players Fathers Association we would like to salute and congratulate the men and women of the Armed Forces for your courageous and valiant service you display each and every day. Without your commitment to serve and your professional ability to protect we would be a lost and weak nation. So the fathers of the NFL men you cheer and support during the football season want you to know how blessed we are too have you protecting our freedom and country daily both individually and collectively.
We as Americans really take our freedom for granted, we complain about the most trivial things we encounter as if they were all life threatening. When I hear people complain about sporting teams, players and winning and losing games I immediately think back to my days in the military. In as much as some people want to equate football to war because of the violent nature of the game, nothing could be further from the truth. Without getting to vivid and or graphic I will simply say that for fans who live and die by the success or failure of their team you should never forget that football is and always will be only a game for our enjoyment.
I’m sure every person serving in the military during these challenging times would love trade places with those fans that disrespect their fellow man, criticize their country leaders and complain about life’s present conditions. What those of us that have served in our military understand is the same thing that our men on the football field realizes and that is no individual can win a team event single handed, it takes the effort of every teammate to do their part daily to increase the chances of being victorious.
The military places their personnel in situations that exemplify the importance of team camaraderie and respect for their organization, superiors and fellow teammates. We can all take a page out their military manual on respect and appreciation for life.
I am proud to mention that several of my fellow fathers in the association are veterans of the military who have served proudly and understand what it means to go to war. We salute and recognize some of the fathers of NFPFA that deserve recognition for their service to our country, they are as follow:

Commander Samuel Jones – Retired Navy (Father of Dahani Jones Cincinnati Bengals)
